Is There an App to Control the Lights?
We offer both app-controlled and more straightforward, traditional timers. The best option to use depends on the lighting system installed and your preferences. If it’s a single-color landscape lighting system, a simple timer will often meet your needs. If it’s a color-changing RGBW system, then smart-app control is best–with an intuitive app interface, you can easily customize schedules, brightness, and colors (where applicable) to match your preferences.
Can Landscape Lighting Integrate with the Permanent Holiday Lighting System?
Absolutely! If you already have professionally installed Gemstone Lights from Astoria Lighting Co., we also offer color-changing spotlights that integrate seamlessly. This means you can manage both systems from the same app, ensuring a cohesive look for your home’s exterior lighting.
However, if you want a more traditional and extensive landscape lighting system, with spotlights, path lights, wall-wash, and hardscape lighting, we recommend a dedicated, timer-controlled system from brands that offer all of these options. We do offer color-changing bulbs in traditional landscape lighting systems, but they are not integrated with the Gemstone Lights app. Our landscape lighting designer will work with you to design a system that meets your needs!
Are Color-Changing Bulbs Available for Landscape Lighting, or Just White?
We offer both options! Depending on your needs, you can choose from warm white fixtures for a classic, elegant glow or RGBW (color-changing) fixtures that allow you to customize your outdoor lighting for different moods, holidays, and special occasions.
Do You Offer Solar-Powered Options?
At this time, we focus on hardwired low-voltage LED lighting, which ensures greater brightness, reliability, and longevity compared to most solar-powered alternatives. Our wired systems provide consistent performance and are not affected by weather conditions, shade, or battery life like many solar products. Unfortunately, solar-powered options are not a feasible alternative at this point, and due to the low-quality manufacturing of most of these products, you will have to replace them, which increases the ecological footprint of solar products. We do not recommend them.
How Easy Is the App to Use? Do You Have a Demo or Brochure?
Depending on your system and the functionality you want, you may not need an app. If you want color-changing options, a smartphone app is the best interface, and the apps we provide are designed for effortless control. They feature a user-friendly interface with simple navigation, making it easy to adjust brightness, set timers, change colors (if applicable), and create schedules. If you’d like to see how it works before moving forward with installation, we offer a demo upon request. After the products are installed, we include a customer app demo and training every time!
Are Brightness and Timers Adjustable?
You have full control over timers regardless of the type of lighting system. For brightness, this will depend on the type of system. A traditional landscape lighting system will have a fixed brightness and color, determined at the design stage. Our standard recommendation for warm white landscape lighting is 3000 Kelvin, but depending on the facade of your home, or your personal preferences, we can adjust this. We can also adjust the brightness of the lights at the design stage.
For smart lighting systems, like our Bistro lights, permanent lighting, color-changing landscape lighting systems, or some traditional LED bulb systems, the brightness and timers will be controlled via a smartphone app, and can be adjusted real-time. Whether you want a soft evening glow or a bright security-focused setup, our app allows you to fine-tune the intensity of your landscape lights to suit your needs. However, for classic landscape lighting looks, we find that customers will decide on a particular brightness and color, and will find little reason to vary from it.
How Noticeable Are the Fixtures During the Day?
Our fixtures are designed to blend into your landscape. We use low-profile designs and finishes that complement natural surroundings, ensuring that they are discreet and stylish even when not in use. The goal is to highlight your home’s beauty at night without detracting from its appearance during the day. But, when you do see the fixtures, you will like how they look! We offer aluminum, brass, and black fixtures, depending on the style of your home and your preferences.
How Much of the Yard or Home Exterior Will Each Fixture Illuminate?
The coverage depends on the type of fixture and placement:
- Path lights typically illuminate a 3-5 foot radius, making them perfect for walkways and garden beds.
- Spotlights and uplights can cast light anywhere from 10 to 40 feet, depending on the beam angle and wattage, making them ideal for accenting trees, architectural features, or larger spaces.
- Floodlights and wall-washers provide wide-area illumination and can cover large sections of your yard or home exterior, enhancing security and aesthetics.
