Patio String Lights That Survive the Weather

Texas sun, Georgia humidity, Utah snow loads: patio string lights live outside full time, so ours are specced like it. Wet-location rated cord and sockets, shatterproof LED bulbs that handle heat and hail, UV-stable jacketing that does not chalk and crack, and connections sealed against wind-driven rain or snow. LED matters for more than the electric bill, though at up to 90 percent less draw than incandescent strands it matters there too: LED bulbs run cool, which is why the strand over your dining table can be bright without cooking the air beneath it. Everything we hang is serviceable, individual bulbs replace in seconds, and the system carries a 3-year product warranty and a 3-year labor and workmanship warranty.

One honest note: we do not install solar string lights. They dim as the evening goes on, exactly backwards from what a patio needs, and their batteries rarely survive a second summer. Wired, controllable, permanent: that is the product we stand behind.

Double Duty

Accent Lighting From Your Roofline

Here is the accent trick most homeowners have not considered: if your home has, or gets, our permanent Christmas lights, you already own a whole additional accent system. Every light in the roofline track is individually controllable, so on ordinary nights you can run true warm white on just the peaks, the corners, and the entry line, subtle, elegant, and indistinguishable from purpose-built architectural lighting, with the rest of the run dark. Ground-level uplighting draws the eye up; roofline accents finish the top of the composition; together they frame the entire elevation. It is permanent exterior house lighting doing double duty, and designing the two layers as one system is something an independent provider who installs both, which is us, does better than anyone selling either one alone.

A pergola is the easiest structure in the yard to light beautifully and the easiest to ruin with clutter. Done right, string lights weave through or across the beams in clean parallel runs or a single perimeter line, wiring hidden along the structure, with the app brightness setting doing the mood work. For covered patios we combine strands with the structure itself: perimeter runs at the beam line, and where the ceiling allows it, discreet downlights over cooking and dining zones so the string lights can stay at ambiance level instead of working as task lighting. If the pergola is going in new, tell your builder to call us before the stain goes on; pre-wiring during construction makes the cleanest installation of all.

Porch and Entryway String Lighting

Porch string lights turn the front porch from a pass-through into a room: a perimeter run at the ceiling line, or swags across the length of a deep Southern porch, warm and dim enough to sit under on a summer night. We anchor into the porch structure, hide the wiring along trim lines, and wire to a switch or smart control inside the door. Poles Where Structure Is Missing

Open yards need anchor points: 10 to 14 foot steel or cedar poles set in concrete footings, sized for the cable tension pulling on them. A fence picket will not do it, and this is where most DIY installs fail.

Total the wattage, confirm the circuit, use wet-rated cord and connections, and put brightness on app control, because string lights at 100 percent are a work light and at 40 percent are a mood.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why do professionally installed string lights look so much better?

Tensioned cable. The strand carries no load, so swags stay even and level for years. That plus commercial-grade cord, shatterproof dimmable LEDs, and structural anchoring is the whole difference.

Do they survive wind and storms?

Yes. Cable-hung systems flex and return; the failures you have seen are draped cords tearing out of trim screws. Our anchors go into framing, and our connections are wet-rated.

Can I dim them?

Every installation includes app control for dimming, and it is the setting you will use most. Timer settings and colour options are available depending on the system.

What if I do not have anything to hang them from?

We set steel or cedar poles in concrete footings and build the anchor points your yard is missing. Open-lawn canopies are a normal Tuesday for us.

How long does installation take?

Most homes: one day, including poles. We design first so the day goes exactly to plan.

What about the strand I bought online, will you hang it?

We install our commercial-grade systems only, because our warranty covers the whole assembly: cable, hardware, cord, and bulbs. It is the only way we can warranty the installation.

Can string lights stay up year-round?

Ours are designed for exactly that. Commercial-grade wet-rated cord, sealed sockets, and shatterproof LED bulbs live outside full time; taking them down for winter would be missing the point of installing them properly.

What height should string lights hang?

Nine to twelve feet over walking and dining areas is the comfortable range: high enough for clearance and even light, low enough to feel like a ceiling. Swag depth comes off that number, which is why we design the runs before drilling anything.

Will you hang lights in my trees?

Where the trees can host them healthily, yes. We mount with standoffs and cabling rather than wrapping or piercing trunks, and we will tell you honestly when a tree is the wrong anchor.

Do string light poles need a permit or HOA approval?

Permits are rarely required for residential low voltage string lighting and simple footings. HOA-governed communities sometimes review poles as structures, and we are happy to provide the documentation your board needs.
