(Astoria Lighting Co Official Guide to Permanent Holiday Lighting)

Why This Post Matters

If you’re researching permanent holiday lighting for your home, three questions usually rise to the top:

  1. “What is the warranty, and how do you handle warranty claims?”
  2. “What happens if a bulb fails or the system malfunctions?”
  3. “How long will the lights last, and what maintenance is required?”

Below you’ll find straight, product‑specific answers based on Gemstone Lights™ hardware and Astoria Lighting Co’s exclusive warranties—no generic lighting talk, just the facts that apply to your future system.

1. What is the warranty, and how do you handle warranty claims?

*“Limited Lifetime” means coverage for manufacturing defects for as long as you own the home where the system was originally installed. Customer‑caused damage isn’t covered.

How claims work—step by step

  1. Call, text, or open a service ticket from the Gemstone app or our website.
  2. Remote diagnostics. Many issues are firmware or configuration related, and we can often fix them the same day over the cloud or on the phone.
  3. On‑site visit (if needed). A certified technician schedules a time convenient for you. Parts are free if the issue falls under warranty timelines, and labor is free if within 3 years.
  4. Documentation & transfer. Selling the house? We’ll transfer the remaining warranty to the next homeowner at no charge—great for resale value.

2. What happens if a bulb fails or the system malfunctions?

  • Modular, individually addressable LEDs. Each Gemstone LED node can be replaced in minutes without bringing down the rest of the strand.
  • Hot‑swap design. Technicians carry pre‑terminated pigtails and can swap a node without soldering or cutting.
  • Zero‑cost replacements while under warranty. Parts + labor = $0 for you within the covered period. After the warranty, replacement parts are relatively inexpensive.
  • Low after-warranty costs. If you’re out of the labor-warranty period, costs are $40 per hour with a 2-hour minimum to cover our tech’s travel time. This is much less than typical home-service visits (for example, a sprinkler system evaluation is a typical minimum $150).

3. How long do the lights last, and what kind of maintenance is required?

Lifespan

ComponentRating / Test Standard
LED nodes50,000 hours (LM‑80 extrapolation ≈ 20+ Christmas seasons at 6 hrs nightly)
Aluminum trackFactory colored, UV‑stable—won’t chalk or fade for decades
Controller & powerIP67 sealed, 12‑volt low‑voltage; designed for heat, humidity, and cold

Maintenance Checklist (Once a Year)

  1. Visual walk‑around. Make sure trees, gutters, and downspouts haven’t pushed on the track.
  2. Gutter cleaning. Keeps debris from obstructing the light path.
  3. Firmware update. The app will prompt you; press “update” and you’re done.
  4. Soft wash (optional). If you pressure‑wash your home, use a wide fan tip and stay 12″ away from the track—no harsh chemicals needed.

That’s it. No bulb‑twisting, cord untangling, or climbing ladders every year.
